SyncBac PRO ‘revolutionises’ workflow for Sky One extreme-sports show

"Without the SyncBac PRO, the end-to end process from acquisition to post would have been extremely laborious; the whole Timecode Systems workflow has saved an incredible amount of time and money.”

‘Revolution’ follows thirty competitors comprising of inline-skaters, skateboarders and BMX riders over a series of challenging courses within Cardington Studios in Bedfordshire– one of Europe’s largest TV production spaces.

To ensure every move was captured, in addition to more static OB cameras, 16 GoPro cameras were mounted on the competitors and around the sprawling 588ft wide arena.

The huge quantity of footage recorded needed to be swiftly integrated and aligned for efficient post-production. It was this challenge that led the team to adopt our SyncBac PRO solution for the series. SyncBac PRO is the only wireless solution for GoPro cameras available on the market and embeds timecode into the video file of the camera.

The solution, combined with the Timecode Systems :pulse base station and BLINK Hub application, completely streamlined their workflow. The BLINK Hub dashboard allowed the team to monitor and group individual cameras, but most importantly it enabled them to remotely power and start/stop the recording of the cameras which proved integral when capturing fast-paced stunts from the competitors and when cameras were mounted in inaccessible positions.

GoPro Camera Technician Dan Everett-Lock said: “Being able to oversee the status of the cameras from one place allowed us to focus on capturing engaging content for the viewers. Before using the SyncBac PRO this would have had to be done manually, taking up valuable time.”

The Revolution production team required a timecode solution that could withstand the environment of a high-intensity, extreme-sports series in a vast location with multiple GoPro cameras. Embedding timecode into all video and audio footage was the only viable way for all media to be synchronised accurately and used efficiently in a professional environment.

“Knowing that we would end up with endless hours of GoPro footage, the Sky Post-Production team specifically requested SyncBac PROs were used on the shoot,” said Heads of Audio and Video Post-Production John Cochrane and Kevin McCue.

“Without the SyncBac PRO, the end-to end process from acquisition to post would have been extremely laborious; the whole Timecode Systems workflow has saved an incredible amount of time and money,” they added.
